1965 To 1979 Vintage Stratocasters - Find Vintage Strats
Following the sale of the company to CBS, the guitar fell out of favor with musicians, to the point where surprisingly, it came close to going out of production. Enthusiasts weren't as happy with the new Strats rolling off the product line, and voted with a move away from the guitar.
The guitar's image, and its place in the halls of rock legend was saved by the unplanned intervention of a number of late 60s guitar heroes, most notably Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Their use of the guitar brought it firmly back into the spotlight and brought it a whole new legion of musicians and fans. Following its rise back to the limelight, the future of the Strat was assured.
Guitars from the post CBS take over era, right through to the end of the 70s are still sort after and collected. The era saw many changes to the guitar's design and mechanics, as well as an explosion in styles and colors. Given the lack of pre CBS Strats, one's from the following decade and a half are quickly growing in desirability and value. If your looking for an investment for the future or a classy piece of history, they could just provide the answer.
