Peter Frampton’s Guitar Has Been Returned After 30 Years

In 1980, Peter Frampton’s prized 1954 Gibson Les Paul was on a cargo plane along with his other equipment when it crashed en route to Panama. All of his equipment, including the vintage guitar, was believed to have been destroyed in the accident and Frampton’s career continued without his beloved Les Paul. However, thanks to a couple of fans and the Curacao Tourist Board, Peter Frampton’s guitar has been returned after 30 years of separation.

The guitar was Frampton’s number one instrument, which he used in sessions with George Harrison and Harry Nilsson, and which he believed to be lost forever. But a fan of Frampton thought that he may have discovered the prized Gibson Les Paul on the Dutch island of Curacao so he enlisted the assistance of another fan in Holland and, along with some help from the Curacao Tourist Board, they reunited the lost guitar with Frampton in Nashville just before Christmas.

As you may well believe, Frampton was both shocked and thrilled to be reunited with his old melody maker, saying “I am still in a state of shock, first off, that the guitar even exists, let alone that it has been returned to me”, and Gibson have confirmed that the guitar is indeed the genuine missing instrument. Frampton was also keen to remember the people who lost their lives when the plane that was carrying his guitar crashed. Rock legend Frampton said that he intends to restore the classic 1954 Gibson Les Paul to its former glory and reinstate it as his number one guitar. Frampton also commented that he would be insuring the guitar for the princely sum of $2 million and that it was never going to be out of his sight again.
