Famous Vintage Guitars
Over the years there have been many vintage guitars built and played, some better known than others. But what makes famous vintage guitars so iconic, so desirable and so famous? Some vintage guitars make their way into history for being the very first of their kind, with their makers being known as pioneers of their field, while others are the weapon of choice for some of the world’s biggest stars.
When you think of classic vintage electric guitars there are one or two names that spring to mind every time. Names like Fender, Gibson, Vox and Rickenbacker are all synonymous with vintage guitars and can be found at vintage guitar auctions around the world, where enthusiastic bidders can pay a small, or not so small, fortune for rare and desirable vintage guitars.
As we’ve mentioned, one thing that makes a vintage guitar famous is being the first of its kind and, one such instrument is the Frying Pan. Officially known as the Ro-Pat-In A-22, and later the Rickenbacker A-22, the Frying Pan was the very first electric lap steel guitar ever produced back in 1931 that created a unique Hawaiian sound, a sound that well and truly cemented it into the ‘famous vintage guitars’ hall of fame, where it has been ever since.
The Fender Stratocaster is one of the best known names when it comes to guitars, and it easily finds a place in our famous vintage guitars list. The ‘Strat’ has many famous advocates, who include; Eric Clapton, Chris Rea, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend and Dick Dale, to name but a few. The Stratocaster has been around since the 50’s, and this famous vintage guitar is still the mainstay of popular music.
Les Paul is credited as being one of the most important pioneers of the solid body electric guitar, so it’s no surprise to find the Gibson Les Paul in our famous vintage guitars selection. And, even though Les Paul is reputed to have had very little to do with the design of the iconic guitar, the Gibson Les Paul has carried his name for over half a century and is another permanent fixture in the famous vintage guitar list.
There are, of course, many other famous vintage guitars from many other manufacturers but the three guitars above are certainly deserving of their recognition as the most famous vintage guitars of all.
